More friends, home and another minor drama
After breakfast, Christine elected to drive me across to Brunswick where I was going to spend a couple of hours with Nina before heading to the airport. Nina had said her son Taji would drive me and her to the airport, which was very kind.
Nina and I spent a couple of hours chatting, looking at the house she has newly moved into, and generally catching up.
We allowed plenty of time to get to the airport, so of course there were no delays.
I had already checked in. I had no luggage to check in so went straight to the departure lounge and waited for my flight.
I was delighted to find that the middle seat, next to my window seat on the right side of the plane, chosen to make sure my shoulder was protected, was vacant. So plenty of space.
I was less than delighted to have a small child behind me who kept pushing at my seat and, along with her sister, squealing and yelling.
A request to the female parent seemed to get a slightly calmer period for a short time but then it all returned with a vengeance. The male parent now sitting with the two children was paying an inordinate amount of attention to his phone and the sound devices in his ears and took offence at my dislike of the children's behaviour but that was his problem not mine.
As the plane flew over the heads on Port Philip bay, I looked at the coastline thinking I should have been travelling along there a couple of weeks ago, but the best laid plans...
After getting into the terminal I ordered an Uber which was pretty much there as I arrived at the meeting point and had a very smooth, safe ride home with a young Indian driver. And I commented upon his good driving.
He carried my suitcase up the steps for me which was lovely.
I got into the house, organised a few things then went to grab my phone and could not find it. I messaged and then called Kris via messenger and asked her to call me so I could locate my phone. Conclusion: it wasn't in the house. I spent quite a bit of time trying to log in to my Tile account only to find that I could not do that on my laptop.
I also contacted Uber to let them know I had lost something in the Uber. I also contacted the airport lost property in case I had dropped it getting into the Uber.
Chatting with Jonathon later about accessing my Tile account, he downloaded the app to his iPhone, logged in and told me that my phone was at West Moonah, so definitely not at the airport and I was comfortable. It was in the Uber and my nice driver would return it soon. I hoped.
The next morning I had a message to say the driver had advised Uber that the object was found but options for contacting the driver involved phoning him via the app. I tried finding the number and asking Kris to call him but it wouldn't let her call the number unless from the app and presumably my account.
I looked for other ways to communicate with Uber and at all points their website really does not accommodate not having a phone, even if you're trying to report a lost phone
Anyway, I managed to send a couple of messages to Uber and attempted an online chat which simply asked me to leave a message and they'd get back to me within 6 to 12 hours. I left the front porch light on and about 9:00 p.m. there was a knock on the door and my lovely Uber driver returned my phone, for which I was most grateful.
It was amazing the things I kept thinking I must do, but could not do because it required my phone. Even down to accessing money in one account which is only on an app.
